re Texas business
It is only today that I can find time to confirm to you the cable I had to send you on the 6th ultimo, reading:
"Regret, regardless warning my letter twentyeighth January (1916), you and or Hongkong firm surreptitiously approached Texas Company, through Hongkong Bank, and attempted obtain agency agreement, excluding my Company and without its written consent; therefore Com-
pany hereby holds your two firma responsible for all consequences, resulting (from) this flagrant breach (of) June (1916) contract, also
for injurious statements to Texas and others, including also for dam-
ages if Company loses (this Texas) agency.

in further explanation of which, I beg to refer you to our previous cor-
respondence and in particular to the letter referred to in this cable.
Also to my ecfidential letter, as in copy enclosed to Mr. Fade Gardner
the New York Agent of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, see
ing that this letter, dated the 3rd May, contains an exact copy of the
instructions, cabled to this gentleman, to approach the Texas Company
to urge your appointment, in the illegitimate manner referred to in my
cable; and which letter will shortly come before your Hongkong partner,
he being a director of that Bank and Mr. Wade Gardner having no doubt
Bent a copy to Hongkong.
Matters have unfortunately, and in spite of my timely warning.
